This newly started Aalto Science Institute’s Joint SCI/CHEM Thematic Research Programme (TRP), 2018-2020, focuses on a novel class of single-phase solid solution metal alloys called “high entropy alloys” (HEAs), in which the number of alloying elements with significant molar fractions exceeds five. The object of the TRP is to initiate the study of HEAs within Aalto University and build a cross-school collaboration focusing on aspects from fundamental understanding of microscopic deterioration mechanisms to global corrosion tendencies and rates and novel investigations about the recyclability of HEAs. In addition, we build a HEA knowledge platform with active international exchange, research and seminars. The TRP is coordinated by Prof. Filip Tuomisto (Aalto SCI) and Prof. Mari Lundström (Aalto CHEM).
