New dean sought for the School of Chemical Technology

Aalto University seeks to appoint new dean to lead the operations of the School of Chemical Technology, the School of Engineering and the School of Science. The new deans will start in their positions at the beginning of 2013. At Aalto University, deans are elected for a five-year term.

The dean has the overall responsibility for directing the school in accordance with guidelines set by the Board and the President. A key task of the Dean consists of active participation in the planning and implementation of the recruitment of new faculty.

A more specific job description is available at "Open positions". The application period will continue until 28 September 2012. The working groups and the President will also accept proposals for persons suitable for the position of a dean.

The aim is that the University Board will appoint the deans during the autumn. The current deans will retain their duties until the start of the new term in 2013.

The school combines physical sciences with engineering

Aalto University School of Chemical Technology is committed to being a world class research and educational institution in the science and engineering of natural resources by 2020. The school focuses its activities in particular on conversion, processing and development of new materials based on renewable and non-renewable resources. The school combines physical sciences with engineering and advanced bio- and nanotechnology in materials science and chemical technology. The School is a principal actor in Aalto University´s Bioeconomy Initiatives. The School has commenced the renewal of its teaching curricula and is actively developing novel approaches to engineering education focusing on students’ learning outcome.

Currently the School has 35 tenure track professors, 1400 students and some 530 employees. The  annual budget is 38 M€ of which 16,8 M€ is externally funded.
